Michael Gove was a potential target of the man accused of killing Tory MP Sir David Amess, according to The Sun. The front page describes the plot as “Kill Gove plot” and says the defendant visited Parliament twice but was put off by “armed to the teeth” police officers.
The Daily Mirror says a man accused of killing MP Sir David Amess had previously targeted cabinet minister Michael Gove. The paper says Mr Ali “allegedly staked out Mr Gove’s home five times” before Sir David’s killing. Ali Harbi Ali denies the charges against him.
Campaigners want Rishi Sunak to increase state pensions to help fight a rise in the cost of living, the Daily Express reports. The paper says Rishi Sunak must do more for struggling pensioners.
Like the Sun and Daily Mail, the front splash carries a picture and positive report on the Duchess of Cambridge who is alongside her husband Prince William during a royal visit to the Caribbean.
“Escape from Mariupol” is the headline on the Metro. Two journalists who revealed Russian war crimes in Mariupol have been taken to safety by Ukrainian troops after being placed on a Kremlin hit list, Metro reports. The paper says it has a “terrifying first-hand account” of the journalists from US agency Associated Press.
The Guardian says an investigation has linked more than £13bn of global assets, including offshore bank accounts, yachts, private jets and luxury properties in London, Tuscany and the French Riviera, to 35 oligarchs and Russian officials alleged to have close ties to Vladimir Putin.
