Today’s news summary – Paper Talk

Thursday’s front pages continue their coverage of the ongoing Ukrainian war – the papers lead with Russia’s bombing of a children’s hospital after shelling had been stopped for civilian evacuations from key cities.

    …………………………………..

According to The Guardian, Russian bombs “completely destroyed” a children’s hospital in Mariupol, after shelling halted evacuations from several Ukrainian cities. A picture of an injured pregnant woman being rescued from the maternity hospital after yesterday’s bombing dominates the front page.

The Independent writes the missile strike in Mariupol injured expectant mothers and buried children under rubble. The same image of a pregnant injured woman being carried out of the rubble makes the front page of the Independent.

The Metro also leads on the Russian attack on a maternity and children’s hospital in Mariupol, Ukraine, calling it a “new low for Putin”. The paper also features an exclusive from a Ukrainian mother who says she’s given up on Britain – the paper says she’s currently stuck at Calais.

The Daily Express writes that Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, has once again urged Western leaders to impose a no-fly zone in his country. The paper’s front splash features an image of a pregnant woman being recused on a stretcher – and the news of the finding of the Endurance shipwreck also makes the front splash.

The Daily Mirror also leads on the missile strike on a hospital in Ukraine, describing it as “barbaric”. The paper says ‘sheer horror as Putin’s forces destroy maternity hospital’ – the same image of a pregnant woman being rescued makes the front page.

The Sun leads on the bombing of a hospital in Mariupol, describing it as “evil upon evil”. The paper leads with an image of an injured pregnant woman wrapped up in a duvet. The front splash also has an image of the Duchess of Cambridge who paid tribute to Ukraine yesterday.
