Tim Walz accepts Democratic Party nomination for vice president
Tim Walz officially accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination for vice president during the Democratic National Convention (DNC) on Wednesday night.
During his speech, Walz touted his military service, his record as governor and the campaign’s stances on reproductive rights and gun control. And he repeated a line he’s used on the campaign trail several times already: “Mind your own damn business”.
Democrats, gathering at Chicago’s United Center, are eager to build on the momentum generated by Harris’s recent elevation to the top of the party’s ticket. They aim to channel the excitement following President Joe Biden’s decision to step aside, while also preparing for a tough contest against former President Donald Trump.
Walz, who was relatively unknown on the national stage before joining Harris, has since endeared himself to many voters with his Midwestern background. However, Walz has also faced scrutiny over some aspects of his personal narrative, including a recent clarification from his wife regarding the fertility treatments they used, as well as criticism over a 2018 comment about carrying weapons during his military service. Despite serving in the National Guard for 24 years, Walz did not see combat in a war zone.
