The Voice Kids UK judge Ronan Keating has looked back on his time auditioning for Boyzone, remembering the famous faces also hoped to bag spots in the boyband.
Among them were acclaimed actor Colin Farrell and The Script singer Danny O’Donoghue, and we can’t help but imagine what the boyband would have been like had they been in the line-up.
On the latest episode of the ITV competition, Ronan – who’s a coach alongside Pixie Lott, Danny Jones and will.i.am – was asked if he would have considered trying out for a similar show when he was a child.
Given the aspiring singers who participate in The Voice Kids are aged between seven and 14, the 45-year-old admitted that he wouldn’t have gone for it when he was at the lower end of the bracket.
‘Maybe not at 7, but 12, 13, 14 I would’ve. I was only 15 when I started the auditions for Boyzone,’ he said.
After Will expressed his astonishment that trying out for Boyzone was his first audition, Ronan recollected how ‘huge’ it was, with hundreds of people turning up in Dublin vying to be included in the final cut.

‘Colin Farrell was there, and Danny from The Script,’ he added.
‘Danny from The Script auditioned?!’ Will exclaimed in astonishment, having judged on The Voice UK alongside Danny from 2012 to 2013.
‘There were loads of cats that are now successful,’ Ronan remarked.
The Recruit star Colin previously opened up about auditioning for Boyzone, revealing on The Late Late Show in Ireland that he was spotted dancing in a nightclub by Louis Walsh.
‘He said, “I’m getting this band together and it’s gonna be great, and you’d be wonderful,”’ the actor remembered.
At the auditions, Colin was reportedly told that it was simply a formality… until they heard him sing.
‘Terrible tune coming out of this mouth, murdered it,’ he admitted, before later receiving a call from Louis at his home.
‘My mother said Louis Walsh was on the phone for me. It was at the bottom of the stairs so I took the phone and he went, “Look, Colin listen, today you know, it’s not really… it’s not going to work, you know.”’
The Voice Kids returns tomorrow at 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
