    The US was already a leader of oil exports to Spain before Trump’s arrival

    The US was already a leader of oil exports to Spain before Trump’s arrival

    The United States was consolidated before the inauguration of Donald Trump as the main origin of the oil arrived in Spain in 2024, a period in which Brazil seconded him among the main countries of origin of the oil arrived in the country.

    According to the statistics of the Corporation of Strategic Reserves of Petroleum Products (CORES), as in 2023 the United States led oil exports to Spain in 2024, by increasing its shipments to the country by 17.7%, reaching 10.25 million tons (Mt). With this, it monopolized 15.9% of the oil that entered Spain, 1.8 points more than in the whole of 2023.

    In second place, Brazil broke out that reached 9.13 mt of oil sent to Spain, 37.6% more than the previous year. Exported 14.1% of the total crude oil arrived in the country, 3.3 points more than in 2023.

    In third place, Mexico sent 8.46 mt of crude to Spain, increasing its sales by 20.2%. Thus, its quota increased to 13.1%, 1.7 points more than in 2023.

    Behind, Nigeria, who led sales before the United States, fell to fourth place despite increasing its sales by 15.8%. This African country totaled 7.39 mt, 11.4% of the total, one more point than in the set of 2023.

    Another fall among countries with a significant contribution to Spanish refineries was that of Angola that totaled 4.06 mt of oil sent to the country, 2.7%less. Its quota stood at 6.3%, 0.5 points below the total of the preceding year.

    Libya also descended, which totaled 3.87 MT, after reducing their shipments to Spain by 10.9%. Its presence was reduced 1.1 points, from 7.1% in 2023 to 6% in 2024.

    Along the last years, Saudi Arabia continued to reduce its crude oil exports to Spain, in this case 14.5%, to 3.51 Mt. Thus, it cut its contribution to 5.4%, 1.3 points less than in the set of 2023.

    Also, Venezuela exported 3.01 mt to Spain, Algeria 2.56 mt, Kazakhstan 2.56 MT, Iraq 1.92 mt, Canada 1.63 mt, Norway 1.18 mt, Equatorial Guinea 1,13 mt, Italy 0 , 56 MT, Azerbaijan 0.26 Mt, Gabon 0.25 mt, Ghana 0.25 Mt, United Kingdom 0.24 Mt, Albania 0.23 mt and Senegal 0.14 Mt. Spain stopped receiving crude oil from Colombia, Ecuador , Trinidad and Tobago, Egypt and Tunisia.
