He may not have made it to the end, but The Traitors star Ivan Brett had his suspicions about one player in particular all along.
Hosted by Claudia Winkleman, the new gripping BBC gameshow gives 22 contestants the opportunity to win up to £120,000 in the ultimate game of trust.
But it was never going to be simple, as the Faithfuls are tasked with identifying and banishing the Traitors before being murdered themselves in the dead of night.
It’s the programme everyone’s hooked on and everyone has theories about, but being involved involves a whole new level of skill and strategy.
Ivan, though, was heading in the right direction, as he claims he ‘knew’ Amanda Lovett was a Traitor from the very first moment she was handed the poisoned chalice.
Speaking to Metro.co.uk, the 33-year-old author revealed the one clue that gave it away.

‘I knew it was Amanda from the first second we took off our blindfolds because her demeanour completely changed,’ he said, after Traitors were selected by host Claudia as contestants sat at the roundtable.
‘I’d been sitting with her on the train and I had been spending a lot of time with her that first day. She was being wonderful and motherly and very warm but, as soon as the blindfold came off, the first thing she did was pop on her glasses.
‘Now, of course, she needed them, but she hadn’t been wearing them the rest of the day because of how she wanted to appear to people and I believe putting those glasses on was an unconscious defence mechanism to be like, “Got something to hide now, gonna just pop these on as a little guard!”.’

Ivan added: ‘Even if that’s the wrong reason, I was on it. I totally suspected her the whole time!’
And that wasn’t the only reason he thought there was something fishy about Amanda, who has gone pretty much undetected by her fellow contestants thus far.
‘Another thing, she kept saying very early on, “Maybe there are no Traitors!”, which I felt like… they can’t do that. I was fully, fully under the impression that it was her.’
It wasn’t only Amanda Ivan was suspicious off either, as he claims to have had Wilfred Webster and Alyssa Chan on his list too.

Following that breakfast which saw Tom Elderfield and Alex Gray drop the bombshell of their secret relationship, arguments and tears galore ensued, which also led to Wilfred and Alyssa crying.
Picking up on their heavily emotional response to the chaos, Ivan said: ‘I said to Theo, “If I go home, look at Will and Alyssa”, looking back on it, I wish I could’ve turned the screw on one of my theories since I actually, within my list of people I suspected, got all three of them!
‘But part of my strategy wasn’t actually to vote out the Traitors early because it puts you in the firing line, so I wanted to hold onto those names. I only wanted to get rid of the Traitors in the second half of the show, if I got there, so more fool me, I guess!’

Alyssa was later left in tears as she became the first Traitor banished in episode 6, after Wilfred double-crossed her in shocking scenes.
Of course, Ivan wasn’t there to see the drama unfold, as he too became a victim of the roundtable in episode 5, after magician Tom convinced the rest of the cast to vote him out.
Ivan now ensures there’s no bad blood between him and Tom and, if they were to re-enter the game, they would likely work together and be an ‘unbeatable’ team.

At the time, however, Ivan had some strong words for Tom as he left in sassy style, delivering an epic speech filled with magic-related metaphors and digging in the knife one final time, having that last laugh as he revealed he was, in fact, a Faithful.
‘I’m very proud of myself!’, he said of his dramatic exit.
‘It felt incredibly good because we had made each other our nemeses.’
The Traitors is available to stream on BBC iPlayer.
