Alongside the free infant update for The Sims 4, EA is releasing a separate paid expansion that adds new mechanics and a new town to visit.
With The Sims 5 seemingly still years away, EA and developer Maxis have pledged to release more paid expansions and free updates for The Sims 4 in the interim.
The long-awaited infant update is scheduled to finally arrive on March 14, but EA and Maxis have also announced a new Growing Together expansion that’ll release a couple days afterwards, on March 16.
Aside from adding a brand new town called San Sequoia for your sims to travel to and live in, the expansion will include entirely new gameplay mechanics for not just infants but whole families.
While infants are being added to the base game for free, the new expansion comes with extra mechanics like milestones, which highlight a sim’s growth and unlock abilities, and infant quirks that affect an infant’s personality.
There are 18 infant quirks in total, such as Messy Eater and Snuggly Sleeper, and an infant can have upwards of three of them, so there’re plenty of unique combinations. Toddlers will also receive their own set of 18 quirks.
The expansion also comes with what EA calls a new social compatibility feature, ‘which introduces new ways of socialising that will feel different with each sim, leading to deeper, more meaningful relationships with family and friends.
‘Your sim will now have preferences that determine who they are socially compatible with and who are their sworn enemies! As your sim experiences life, there will be opportunities for both drama and unity that will ultimately affect family dynamics and your sims’ relationships,’ reads EA’s website.
There’s honestly a lot going on with this expansion, so we advise you visit EA’s website for a more in-depth breakdown. A preview will also be held on March 3 and will likely feature some real-time gameplay of the expansion in action.
