Michael Keaton’s Batman is having a renaissance not just in movies but in Lego, with a huge new set recreating the Batcave from Batman Returns.
Batman and Lego have always been a dynamic duo, with recreations of the Caped Crusader in all his many guises, from the 60s Adam West era up to the Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson incarnations.
There’s been plenty of original toys too, which have spawned their own games and even their own movie, but the older films remain a draw, with the giant-sized version of the 1989 Batmobile, from a few years ago, being one of the most popular sets in recent times.
That may finally have been outdone though, with a recreation of the Batcave from 1992’s Batman Returns, which includes a cleverly designed diorama that features not just the Batmobile but seven minifigures, including Michelle Pfeiffer’s Catwoman and Danny DeVito’s Penguin.
The set is made up of 3,981 Lego pieces and comes in the form of a giant 29cm by 51cm box, with a cut-out of the bat symbol on one side.
Looking through the symbol you can see the Batcave inside the box and then if you open the whole thing up you get to see all the details, including the bat computer, Batman’s armoury, and a dais for the Batmobile.
You can move the furniture about, turn the chair, change what’s shown on the computer screen, and open and shut the tool store and Batsuit vault – which is illuminated by a special Lego brick.
The Batmobile is also full of gimmicks, with two hidden shooters that pop up if you turn a dial, and a flame element to add to the exhaust.

As well as Penguin and Catwoman you also get minifigures for two versions of Batman (one with a cloth cape to fit in the Batmoblie), plus Max Shreck, Alfred, and Bruce Wayne.
Since it was partly inspired by Batman Returns, this version of the Batcave also looks reminiscent of its portrayal in Batman: The Animated Series, for a double dose of nostalgia.
Because it’s so big, the set costs £344.99 and will be released on June 8 via the Lego website and official Lego stores. However, you can get it three days earlier if you sign up as a Lego VIP, which you can do for free here.
As seen in the upcoming Flash movie, too (pic: Lego)
