While there may well be a new Uncharted it won’t be series creator Naughty Dog making it – and perhaps not The Last Of Us Part 3 either.
Especially in the wake of the movie, there’s been a lot of rumours flying around of a new Uncharted game, and all of them seem to be in agreement that series creator Naughty Dog won’t have anything to do with it.
That’s something that they’ve now publicly confirmed, with co-president Neil Druckmann stating that they’re ‘moving on’ from the series
‘For us, Uncharted was insanely successful – Uncharted 4 was one of our best selling games – and we’re able to put our final brushstroke on that story and say that we’re done. We’re moving on.’
There’s nothing there to suggest that someone else can’t come along and make a new game, instead of Naughty Dog, and indeed rumours have suggested that at one point Days Gone developer Sony Bend were tasked with making a new entry.
However, that project, whatever it is, is now believed to have been passed onto another, unnamed, developer.
This is despite the fact that only last year Naughty Dog was advertising for people to work on the ‘legacy of Uncharted’, which doesn’t sound like they’ve moved on at all.
It’s likely though that a lot has changed in the last few weeks, after the success of The Last Of Us TV series, and that priorities may have shifted.
That includes The Last Of Us Part 3, which at one point was said to be potentially Naughty Dog’s next project – either that or a brand new IP.

Back in 2021 Druckmann even said he had a story outline for a third The Last Of Us game, but according to a new interview with BuzzFeed he may no longer be so enamoured with the idea.
According to him, Naughty Dog would only make a third game if they ‘can come up with a compelling story that has this universal message and statement about love – just like the first and second game did – then we will tell that story.
‘If we can’t come up with something, we have a very strong ending with Part 2 and that will be the end.’
That’s a strange way to characterise the story of the games, especially the second one which Druckmann himself summarised as having themes of ‘hate’ and a cycle of violence.
Given the success of the TV show it’s going to be interesting to see whether Druckmann actually remains with Naughty Dog, given his new found success as a live action director.
However, with the studio’s next game set to be the still unnamed The Last Of Us multiplayer game it may be some time before we hear what they’re working on after that.
