The Kinks are learning an unforeseen consequence of their name having a potentially NSFW meaning.
Frontman Dave Davies founded the English rock band along with his brother Ray back in 1963, and 60 years later the name is causing some issues on Twitter.
The legendary guitarist, 76, has resorted to personally pleading with Twitter owner Elon Musk to stop putting warnings on the group’s tweets, flagging them as having potentially ‘sensitive’ content.
A ‘kink’ could mean something straight or smooth having a knot or twist… or it could mean something a bit more sexually explicit.
On Twitter, you’re far more likely to come across the latter meaning, and Dave has now urged Musk to ‘stop putting warnings on everything.’
The star took to the site this week sharing a screenshot of an earlier tweet he sent telling followers to check out The Kinks on TikTok – with an automated warning appearing underneath with the words: ‘We put a warning on this Tweet because it might have sensitive content.’

He wrote: ‘Dead @elonmusk would @Twitter please stop putting warnings on everything from ‘the Kinks’. We are just trying to promote our Kinks music.’
In a second tweet, he added: ‘The Kinks are a brand name. We have been the Kinks since 1963.’
Bizarrely, Davies’ request did not go down well with everyone, with one Twitter user suggesting The Kinks change their name after 60 years instead.
They asked – hopefully sarcastically – ‘how hard would it be to change your name to something more family and advertisers friendly?’
To which Dave replied: ‘Like what … The Elons?’
Musk has proven fairly controversial in his takeover of Twitter, which he bought in 2022.

The introduction of paid-for blue-ticks and other changes have caused exasperation among long-time Twitter users, and this week complaints were raised after users noticed tweets and replies from Musk were constantly at the top of their ‘For You’ page, even if they did not follow him.
On Tuesday, Musk acknowledged the glitch in a tweet saying, ‘Please stay tuned while we make adjustments to the uh.…”algorithm.”‘
It came after he became concerned his reach on Twitter was dropping, even making his account private to test his theory.

As reported by Platformer, internal Twitter data indicates that while Musk’s account rose to peak popularity in search rankings in April 2022, engagement has since dropped significantly, and engineers found no issue with Twitter’s algorithm.
The billionaire claimed that up to 95% of his tweets weren’t ‘getting delivered’.
