The Minister of Economy and Finance of the Generalitat, Alicia Romero, presented on Wednesday the Cluster of Serveis Financers, which aims to boost innovation and sustainability in the financial field.
He has done this Wednesday in an event held in the Barcelona Stock Exchange, in which he explained that the initiative intends to “raise projects and resources” in contribution to private actors to boost the Catalan economy.
The project, framed in the Government’s investment macroplan presented in January, wants to respond to the “global” challenges facing the financial system. “In the public sector we have financial instruments, but it is obvious that alone we will do nothing,” said the Minister. “We need to have a robust and dynamic financial system, which is able to adapt to the new challenges we have in front of us,” he added.
Romero has detailed that the Catalan ecosystem has 650 companies, totaling 48.2 billion annual billing and employ 104,000 professionals. The center aims to share the knowledge and resources of this business community.
Sources of inspiration
The Government have been inspired by other experiences such as the Finance Montréal (Canada) and the Finance Innovation (France). In the Catalan case, the cluster is vehiculated by Barcelona Centre Deancer Europeu and has the support of the Department of Economics and Finance.
It is planned to incorporate companies from different segments of the financial value chain, such as insurers, banks, payment systems, venture capital and auxiliary industry signatures. The objective is to reach 50 members at the end of this year and the 90s within five years.
