A former The Bachelor Australia star has urged travellers to stay alert after she was drugged in a bar in the Caribbean.
Monique Morley, who appeared on the 2019 season of the Australian reality dating series, has said she was left ‘practically paralysed’ after going for a drink with a friend in a bar.
‘I’m with a girlfriend in the Caribbean and we went out for drinks in a local bar at lunchtime,’ she explained.
‘The place was nothing fancy, and we were two of the only people there and this local guy was like, “Hey I need to get in front of you”.
‘It was super weird because the place was empty. I assumed he was just going to a small fridge near the wall. I turned to the side to look at the ocean on the veranda and he shuffled past for a second and then shuffled back again,’ she added when speaking to Yahoo Lifestyle.
Monique, 35, explained that her drink had only just been served but when she turned back to drink it she started to ‘feel really weird’.
After asking her friend if she felt the same, which she didn’t, Monique then said she suspected her drink had been spiked.
‘The drink was only left unattended for five seconds,’ she added.
Soon after her health took a turn and ‘everything then started going dizzy’.
On their drive home Monique was throwing up, and said she could ‘hardly’ feel her legs, while her ‘whole body felt weird’.
After getting home the former reality star said she felt ‘practically paralysed and was violently sick for hours’.
‘I’m not sure why I was targeted. Maybe for my handbag and phone, I’m not sure. It’s just lucky I figured it out early,’ she said.

Although she managed to get through the incident safely, Monique has now issued a warning to others.
‘With holidays approaching, please can everyone be so so careful when out, especially when travelling and overseas,’ she said.
‘Watch your drinks and always have someone you trust around you.
‘You should always listen to your gut too and remove yourself from situations you don’t feel comfortable in.’
When appearing on The Bachelor four years ago, Monique captured the attention of astrophysicist Matt Agnew, making it about half-way through the series.

However she was sent packing after it emerged she had called the bachelor a ‘disrespectful pig’.
After leaving the show she insisted the comment was a joke, but said she wouldn’t stop and speak to Matt if she ever saw him on the street.
The Bachelor airs on Channel Ten in Australia.
