Daily Mirror – Thatcher backlash hits Starmer 

The Daily Mirror says Sir Keir Starmer has been hit by a “furious backlash” after his praise for Tory PM Maggie Thatcher. 

The paper says Starmer is facing backlash to his article in the Sunday Telegraph where he credited Margaret Thatcher with bringing about “meaningful change” during her time as prime minister. He also praised former Labour PMs Tony Blair and Clement Attlee for the same reason, but the Mirror notes his comments about Baroness Thatcher will be seen as a bid to win over Conservative voters. 

Sir Keir later defended his article, telling the BBC he had wanted to stress her “sense of purpose” – but it did not mean he agreed with her.
