Daily Mirror – Terror swoop saved thousands
The Daily Mirror leads on the Taylor Swift attempted terrorist attack. CIA’s deputy director David Cohen said the terrorists planned to kill thousands- the news led to three of her shows being cancelled. Cohen described the plans as advanced.
“They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people, at this concert, including I am sure many Americans, and were quite advanced in this. The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them with information about what this IS-connected group was planning to do.”
CIA helped foil Taylor Swift terror plot targeting tens of thousands of fans
The alleged terror plot at a Taylor Swift gig was in its advanced stages before it was foiled, the CIA has claimed.
And deputy director David Cohen said tens of thousands of fans could have been killed if the teenage suspect had carried out his alleged mission. Three sold-out shows at Vienna’s Ernst Happel Stadion were called off this month after bomb-making equipment and chemicals were found at the home of the 19-year-old alleged Islamic State fanatic.
He was arrested along with two others and is suspected of planning to massacre fans gathered outside the gig. US intelligence chief Mr Cohen said: “They were plotting to kill a huge number, tens of thousands of people, at this concert, including I am sure many Americans, and were quite advanced in this. The Austrians were able to make those arrests because the agency and our partners in the intelligence community provided them with information about what this IS-connected group was planning to do.”
Up to 30,000 fans would have been outside the stadium. The suspect allegedly planned to attack them with knives or homemade explosives. Another 65,000 fans were likely to have been inside. Investigators claim they discovered chemical substances and technical devices during a raid of the suspect’s home.
