At least 10 people have lost their lives in landslides caused by heavy rainfall in Brazil Minas Gerais state. The Bethania neighbourhood in Ipatinga was hit hardest by the disaster, which was triggered by 204mm (8 inches) of rain that fell on Sunday morning.
Governor Eduardo Leite asked for urgent help to rescue hundreds in many towns. Helicopters are searching for stranded folks. In some places, the floods are so bad that helicopters can’t land, so they have to lift people to safety.
A Brazilian Supreme Court judge has opened an inquiry into US billionaire Elon Musk after he said he would reactive X (formerly Twitter) accounts, that the judge had ordered to be blocked. Musk took to his social media platform saying that the restrictions on the X accounts had been lifted because the court order was unconstitutional.
