It turns out taking home the Strictly Come Dancing Glitterball trophy might not be all it’s cracked up to be after former winner Kara Tointon claimed it’s just a ‘cardboard ball’.
The former EastEnders actress won the 2010 series of the show with Artem Chigvintsev but more than a decade on, it seems the trophy she walked away with is a little worse for wear.
‘It’s now bald. It’s a bloomin’ bald, grey cardboard ball,’ she said.
‘I feel like saying to the BBC, “I need some maintenance on this please. If you can get round here and shimmy it on together again”.’
Kara made the comments on the podcast Celebrity Catch Up: Life After That Thing I Did, and joked that there should be plans in place to ensure the prize doesn’t fall apart.
‘It should come with a lifetime guarantee,’ she added.

Despite it being 12 years since she won, Kara also admitted she is still shocked that she managed to make it all the way.
‘I still cannot believe that I won the show. It’s my victory in life and I take it with both hands,’ she said.
‘You’re doing something that is completely out of your comfort zone in every sense, but a really one-off life experience that I look back at so fondly.’
Last month Kara posted a throwback video of her time on Strictly as the new batch of celebrities prepared to take to the dancefloor for Blackpool Week.
‘It’s Blackpool week once more strictlyers,’ she posted on Instagaram.
‘Not often do I watch myself and like what I see but this was FAB-U-LOUS with glitter covered bells on.
‘Artem created an incredible American smooth & we loved it. This was 12 years ago tonight. Good god.’
She told the dancers to have a ‘fantastic week’ and enjoy it as it would be ‘one to remember’.
Since leaving EastEnders Kara has also appeared in the series’ Mr Selfridge and The Halcyon, as well as several theatre productions.

She also has two children with partner Marius Jensen, sons Frey and Helly.
Last month she also discussed the future of soaps, revealing that she wondered how long they would sustain given the wide range of entertainment options out there for TV viewers today.
Strictly Come Dancing next airs on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One. The results show will air on Monday, December 12.
