Strictly Come Dancing offered another night of dramatic and emotional routines from its nine remaining couples on Saturday, but some viewers had trouble focusing due to presenter Tess Daly’s choice of footwear.
The elegant long-time host of the BBC’s flagship reality show stepped out in combination of a bright pink midi dress and black leather boots, which had some viewers baffled.
Despite Fleur East topping the leaderboard with 39 after a fiery samba, and emotional routines from the likes of Kym Marsh and Will Mellor, it seemed Tess’s sartorial choices had quite a few fans distracted.
‘Is Tess Daly expecting bad weather?’ asked one fan. ‘Those big black boots really don’t go with her lovely dress.’
‘Is it me or does Tess look like she has a pair of black Wellington boots on?’ chimed in another.
As others picked up on the ‘wellies’ comparison, another commented: ‘What is Tess Daly wearing? Did she forget to bring shoes? She always looks fab but black boots with neon pink dress.. No no no…’

Some also referenced the dress and boots outfit she had worn on a previous episode when she wore a black velvet gown with an asymmetric hem and loose-fitting sparkly heeled boots.
‘Why is Tess Daly wearing boots again, does not go with your outfit,’ read one tweet, while another person added: ‘Again we love Tess Daly but we do not love whoever is styling her on Strictly – someone needs to have a word.’
‘I can’t concentrate on the dances as I’m just thinking about how wrong the dress/boots combo is on Tess tonight,’ lamented one viewer.

However, some fans loved the look – including Tess’s husband Vernon Kay.
Mentioning them in a tweet where he also shared support for contestant Tony Adams, he posted: ‘Go on Tony!!! Great effort!! Loving the boots AGAIN!! @TessDaly @bbcstrictly,’ adding a red love heart.
A fan added: ‘Personally I think @TessDaly can wear anything and look great. Don’t bring her down for daring to be different.’

The night ended with Tony and his professional partner Katya at the bottom of the night’s leaderboard, following their sixties themed jive, which scored 24.
Will and Nancy Xu, and Hamza Yassin and Jowita Przystał, were just one point each behind Fleur and Vito Coppola at the top.
Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight, Sunday, at 7:20pm on BBC One.
