Stephen Fry has joined the growing list of celebrities ditching Twitter following the controversial takeover of new CEO, Elon Musk.
The Tesla founder finalized his $44billion acquisition earlier this month and has been drowning in a sea of controversy for decisions made since.
Announcing his departure to his 12.5million followers, former QI host Fry posted a picture of Scrabble letters that spelled out the word ‘goodbye’, marking his exit.
Those who now try to find his Twitter account at his famed @stephenfry handle will find a page that no longer exists.
Fry, one of the early celebrity adopters of Twitter, is set to join the alternative platform Mastodon, a social networking app that has grown in the wake of the mass celeb exodus.
His exit follows in the footsteps of comedian Kathy Griffin, who had her account suspended by Musk for impersonating his profile, as well as other high-profile tweeters.
Declaring a new set of rules and suspension guidelines as ‘Chief Twit’, users aren’t one bit happy with the dictatorship-esque handling of the notorious forum for freedom of speech.

Supermodel Gigi Hadid has also dismissed the app as ‘more of a cesspool of hate & bigotry’ and hit delete.
Next, acting legend Whoopi Goldberg withdrew her membership to the platform during a monologue she delivered on The View.
Condemning the site as a complete ‘mess’, she closed off her profile on Monday.
The moves had a domino effect and saw accounts of left-leaning, high-profile figures drop like flies in retaliation to the chaotic change of ownership.
What began as a virtual clear-out trickled into real life as the company began culling staff from the British and Irish offices.

Onlookers expressed their disapproval at the sudden firings by comparing the tech entrepreneur’s actions to the mass executions during the Red Wedding scene in Game of Thrones.
Despite his latest efforts to leave the site behind, this was not the first time Fry threatened to throw in the Twitter towel.
In 2016, the star faced backlash on the site for comments made over a costume designer and hinted at a walkout by tweeting: ‘the fun is over.’
Poking fun at friend Jenny Beavan while presenting an award to her for Best Costume Design for the film Mad Max.
As she left the stage, the Blackadder actor commented: ‘Only one of the great cinematic costume designers would come to an awards ceremony dressed as a bag lady.’
Immediately, Twitter stepped in and tried to cancel the comedian for his words to which he responded by briefly deactivating his account.
