EA’s promised gameplay trailer for the sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order is out and it’s looking pretty great.
Although most of the announcements were a surprise, the one thing that we knew was definitely going to be at The Game Awards 2022 was Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, both because EA announced it and Steam managed to leak its release date and Deluxe Edition details ahead of time.
That didn’t really matter though as the most important thing was the first gameplay trailer, which didn’t reveal much about the story but included new features like mounts, picking up a stormtrooper with the Force to use their gun against other bad guys, and a lightsaber that has a crossguard like Kylo Ren.
There was also what looks like a warm weather version of a Hoth wampa, battle droids (as leaked a few months ago by toy images), and what seems to be co-operative moves with a new male character.
The new bounty hunter pair looked cool too, as did main character Cal Kestis (now sporting a beard) using twin lightsabers – implying he gets to use even more variations than last time.
As previously leaked, the release date is March 17 for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC.
What wasn’t revealed is who it is in the bacta tank, which EA is hyping up as the game’s big secret. It was the focus of the original teaser trailer and there was even a real one on stage to introduce the footage, but even as big Star Wars fans we’re still not sure who it’s meant to be.
It could be Taron Malicos, who was in the first game, or possibly a clone of him but we’re not sure. Whoever they are, they only seem to have one arm, but what that implies we don’t know.
What we do know is that we want to find out as soon as possible, and luckily next March isn’t too far away at this point.
