Star Wars Jedi: Survivor – what, no landspeeder? (pic: EA)
In what feels like a direct response to criticism of the first game, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will feature fast travel and mounts.
We would’ve been just over a month away from playing Star Wars Jedi: Survivor if EA and Respawn hadn’t decided to delay it until April.
There is a prequel book coming in early March, to tide fans over, but we wouldn’t mind some new gameplay footage to whet our appetites for the time being.
While we wait for that, director Stig Asmussen has shared one new detail that already makes Star Wars Jedi: Survivor seem like an improvement over its predecessor: fast travel.
In the sequel, not only will there be multiple kinds of creatures you can ride on (he doesn’t mention any vehicles but you can see a sort of emu thing in the trailer), but you’ll also be able to instantly warp to specific locations across the map.
It’s not clear yet whether Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will have the same structure as Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, but the latter most certainly would have benefited from a fast travel feature.
Despite trying to emulate Dark Souls, Fallen Order forced you to manually backtrack through its large environments, making exploration and traversal incredibly dull when trying to leave a planet.
Its inclusion in the sequel feels like a direct response to that criticism, even if Asmussen doesn’t explicitly say this is the case.
‘We will feature both fast travel and rideable creatures to help players quickly get from point A to B, and back to A,’ he explained in an interview with Play Magazine (via GamesRadar).
‘The fast travel is point to point, and the rideable creatures offer a way to quickly negotiate between points and explore what is in between.’

Hopefully this is a sign that Respawn will address other flaws from the first game too.
Load times could certainly be improved, although that should be less of an issue since Star Wars Jedi: Survivor will be exclusive to the newer PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S consoles.
Star Wars Jedi: Survivor launches for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on April 28.
