O Yeong-su, who played Oh Il-nam in the Netflix drama Squid Game, will go on trial on indecent assault charges, it has been reported.
The 78-year-old soared to fame after Netflix’s dystopian drama, becoming the first South Korean to win a Golden Globe for his performance in the blockbuster series.
Oh Il-nam is among the participants competing in a series of fatal games in a bid to win a life-changing sum of money in a show that was hailed as a dark critique of capitalism.
Last week, it was claimed a complaint had been filed in December last year by a woman who claimed the veteran actor touched her inappropriately.
Now, reports have indicated that Yeong-su’s case will be heard at the district court in the South Korean city of Seongnam in February after having been formally charged with indecent assault.
Kim Myeong-un, an official in the district prosecutors’ office, told Sky News that specific details about the trial could not be confirmed at this stage.

According to Korea JoongAng Daily, the English edition of the South Korean national daily newspaper JoongAng Ilbo, Yeong-su has denied the charges.
South Korean TV network JTBC also claimed that the performer addressed the incident in question by explaining how he ‘held hands with the woman to show the way around a lake.’
He is said to have issued an apology to the complainant but added that this did not constitute him admitting he was guilty.

It was reported that the case was closed in April this year with no files being charged at the time, but after the verdict was appealed by the woman the case was reopened.
Yeong-su began his acting career as part of a theatre crew called The Square before progressing on to the National Theater Company of Korea.
