Spotify is making a design change by switching its heart icon to a ‘plus’ button that lets you save music and add songs to specific playlists.
Now, to save a song or podcast to your library, you’ll need to tap the plus icon, after which you will tap it again to add it to your desired playlist.
The audio streaming giant has been testing new ways of adding items to ‘Your Library’ for a while now and some people already have the new plus button.
On Monday, the company announced that it was combining the heart icon and the ‘Add to playlist’ icon into a single symbol: the Plus (+) button.
‘This upgrade is the latest step in our ongoing work to create a more intuitive experience—all leading to an easier way for you to engage with the music and podcasts you love,’ said Spotify.

‘In our user research, we found that the Plus (+) button upgrade helped save time and gave users the ability to add to multiple playlists at once,’
Previously, users could use may the Heart icon to mark the songs they wanted to save, and the ‘Add to playlist’ icon to add tracks or podcast episodes to their chosen playlist.
The new feature began rolling out to all users globally on iOS and Android on Monday and will become available to all Spotify users in the coming weeks.
Last week, Spotify jumped on the AI bandwagon with a new music personalisation feature called ‘DJ’ which will play you a curated lineup of music based on its knowledge of your preferences.
