Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen set to go head-to-head in the ultimate grudge race
The Metro says For Lewis Hamilton, it is the chance to make history by becoming Formula One’s first eight-time world champion. For Max Verstappen, the first opportunity he has had to have his name etched on the world driver’s championship trophy.
The gleaming silver vase, first awarded in 1950, was placed between Hamilton and Verstappen yesterday as they sat in Abu Dhabi’s press conference room. The pair have made little attempt to make eye contact all year, and here they just stared ahead.
Verstappen’s father, Jos, revealed this week the two sides give each other the cold shoulder. ‘I never speak to Lewis,’ said Verstappen Sr, a veteran of 107 grands prix himself.
