Andy Murray through to Australian Open second round after impressive Nikoloz Basilashvili win
The Metro says Andy Murray is through to the second round of the Australian Open after beating world No.23 Nikoloz Basilashvili 6-1, 3-6, 6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 6-4.
Murray’s first match at the Australian Open for three years saw the former British No.1 play out a hard-fought five-set match to reach the second round where he’ll play Japanese qualifier Taro Daniel.
The 34-year-old headed into his first round match in fine form having reached the final of the Sydney International last week and that purple patch continued as he stormed into an early lead, dropping just one game in the opening set.
