Spider-Man 2 – there’ve been no real updates on the game since the 2021 announcement (pic: Sony)
One of Spider-Man 2’s writers may have accidentally leaked a release date just a couple days after a PS Store listing went up early.
As it stands, Insomniac’s Spider-Man 2 is one of only two major first party exclusives Sony has scheduled for 2023, the other being Horizon Call Of The Mountain for PlayStation VR2.
However, official details remain incredibly slim, with the game not even getting a passing mention at The Game Awards.
Insomniac has assured fans that development is progressing well and there’s been speculation that a new announcement will arrive in the near future. In the meantime, it seems a more specific release window of autumn 2023 has been accidentally confirmed.
Recently, one of the game’s writers – one Jamie Mayer – updated her personal website, listing Spider-Man 2 for an autumn 2023 release.
She’s since deleted that detail, with the game back to just a general 2023 release, but this is the internet, so people had already screen grabbed and shared the information.
While it’s possible this is but an internal release date and Insomniac could end up pushing the game back, an autumn release would make the most sense. After all, it can take advantage of launching near Christmas, and the original PlayStation 4 game and the Miles Morales spin-off launched in September and November, respectively.
There’s also evidence that Sony and Insomniac are gearing up for a release date reveal. Earlier this week, a listing for Spider-Man 2 appeared on the UK PlayStation Store with an option to wishlist it.
This seemed intentional, since Insomniac’s own community director James Stevenson retweeted the discovery, but the listing was soon pulled, suggesting it went up earlier than it should have.
Whether or not Sony will simply share the release date on its own or it has a new trailer planned for one of its State of Play presentations isn’t clear yet. But going by recent form it’ll just be a simple blog post.

In the meantime, fans have had to make do with the new trailer for Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse, the long awaited sequel to 2018’s Into The Spider-Verse.
The trailer sees main character Miles Morales encounter even more Spider-People from other universes, with eagle-eyed fans quickly spotting Insomniac’s Spider-Man among the crowd.
It’s unlikely that he’ll play a significant part in the movie’s plot and even if he does he may be more of an antagonist, as the trailer shows nearly all the Spider-People chasing and attacking Miles.
Spider-Man 2 is scheduled for PlayStation 5 in 2023.
