Trouble with Snapchat’s chatbot could be quick to fix (Picture: Jakub Porzycki/NurPhoto via Getty Images)
Since Snapchat launched its intelligent chatbot, powered by ChatGPT, some users have had problems with an error message saying ‘AI is busy’.
The chatbot is billed as ‘an experimental, friendly, chatbot’ designed to be a ‘personal sidekick’ to Snapchat users, answering factual questions, giving advice and helping to plan trips.
But Snapchat did concede that the tool may not always be accurate, and its responses ‘may include biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading content’.
It’s being rolled out to all of the app’s 750 million monthly users for free, after initially being given to Snapchat’s three million paid subscribers.
The chatbot is pinned to the top of users’ chat feeds and only paid subscribers can remove it.
So what do you do if you’re trying to use the chatbot but getting frustrated by the ‘AI is busy’ message?
Here’s what you need to know.

The error message ‘My AI is busy’ can often appear when too many users are trying to access the service, according to website StealthOptional.
In this case, or if it’s slow to respond, being patient (easier said than done) or trying at another day or time might solve the problem.
If not there are further fixes you can try:
Log out of your account, wait a few minutes, then log back in again.
Clear the cache of your browser or, even better, change browser or the device you are using to access the service. Your browser might have accumulated a lot of temporary files and filled up the cache on your device, which can affect performance.
Use a VPN – virtual private network. Thsi enables you to change the country where your request comes from – try experimenting using ones in different time zones.

What is the Snapchat chatbot?
By launching the chatbot, Snapchat has joined more and more companies launching their own versions of artificial intelligence services.
You can give the chatbot a nickname and tell it your likes and dislikes to improve its performance.
The chatbot uses AI to answer questions such as:
Answering a burning trivial question
Offering advice on the perfect gift for your BFF’s birthday
Helping to plan a hiking trip for a long weekend
Suggesting what to make for dinner

My AI can also recommend AR filters to use in Snapchat’s camera or places to visit from the app’s map tab.
If you’re using it to plan a surprise party, or anything else you’d rather keep to yourself, be aware that all of your interactions with the chatbot are stored until you delete them, but you can hide messages sent to My AI within 24 hours or delete your entire My AI Chat history.
