Snapchat is the latest tech company to embrace the power of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with a ChatGPT-powered chatbot called My AI.
On Monday, the social media platform launched a new chatbot feature running the latest version of OpenAI’s GPT technology, customized for Snapchat.
However, My AI is only available as an experimental feature for Snapchat+ subscribers, rolling out this week.
‘My AI can recommend birthday gift ideas for your BFF, plan a hiking trip for a long weekend, suggest a recipe for dinner, or even write a haiku about cheese for your cheddar-obsessed pal,’ said Snapchat.
You can also name your AI and customize the wallpaper for your chat.
What is an AI ‘hallucination’?
Hallucination is when an AI gives confident responses that are not in line with its training data.
When this happens AI systems can create something that looks very convincing but has no foundation in the real world.
Snapchat did warn that just like any AI chatbot, My AI is prone to hallucinations and can be tricked into saying just about anything.
The company went on to warn users of the AI’s ‘many deficiencies’ even apologied in advance.
Users were also asked not to ‘share any secrets with My AI’ as all their conversations will be stored and ‘may be reviewed to improve the product experience’.
‘While My AI is designed to avoid biased, incorrect, harmful, or misleading information, mistakes may occur,’
To submit feedback on any problematic answers by the chatbot, users can press and hold on any message.
This week, Facebook owner Meta also announced that it was experimenting with AI-powered chat on WhatsApp and Messenger.
