It’s been a tumultuous bank holiday weekend for Europe. With snap elections Spain, disastrous floods in Italy and boats capsizing, and Hungary blocking funds to the Ukrainians.
Snap Elections in Spain
Spain has passed a new law this week to allow free abortion treatment. Coinciding with the early Snap elections Spain which were called by the socialist party after a poor performance in some by-elections.
Abortion is divisive in Europe and this is being closely monitored by the Eastern bloc which has more conservative abortion laws. Fearing, positive traction in Spain may energise a blanket law within the EU.
Italian Floods
Italy has been devastated by sudden storms and the Italian floods have ravaged the region of Emilio Romagna as well as a tragic boat capsizing in Lake Maggiore damaging the already lethargic tourist industry.
Hungary continues to block the release of EU military funds for Ukraine
The €500 million is part of the bloc’s European Peace Facility, which aims to help embattled countries, such as Ukraine.
