Singer Asake has shared his devastation following the death of a woman who was crushed by crowds at a London music venue.
On Thursday night, several people were hurt as hundreds of people tried to force their way into Brixton O2 Academy.
One of the women who was left in critical condition, 33-year-old Rebecca Ikumelo of Newham, has since died in hospital.
In a statement shared on social media, Asake, 27, expressed his ‘sincerest condolences’ to her family and wrote that he has been in touch with them.
‘I am devastated by the news that Rebecca Ikumelo who was in a critical condition since Thursday has sadly passed away,’ he said.
‘My sincerest condolences to her loved ones at this time. Let us please keep her family in our prayers. I have spoken to them and will continue to do so.’
He continued: ‘I am overwhelmed with grief and could never have imagined anything like this happening.
‘My team and I are still awaiting the full debrief back from the Venue management and the Police to determine what exactly led to all the disruption caused and ultimately to Rebecca’s passing.’
Asake urged anyone with relevant information relating to the incident to contact the Metropolitan Police.
As of Saturday, two more women aged 21 and 23 are currently fighting for their lives after the crowd crush.

The Nigerian Afrobeats singer cut his performance short as a result of the incident, with footage from the night showing hundreds of people trying to force their way into the sold-out show.
Eight people were taken to hospital and one woman has been arrested.
The police set up an online page appealing for more information.
