A sexual assault case against actor Armie Hammer has been dropped.
The Los Angeles County DA’s office confirmed in a statement that they would not be filing sexual assault charges against the star following a lengthy investigation.
They said they would be unable to prove rape allegations beyond a reasonable doubt in part due to the ‘complexity of the relationship’ between Hammer and his accuser.
The news comes after it was confirmed last month that allegations of sexual assault against the actor were ‘under review.’
He had previously been accused of rape, emotional abuse and violence by multiple women in 2021, which he denied.
Variety now reports that the accuser whose case has now been dropped reported the actor to police in February 2021, and alleged he had been abusive during an on-off relationship over four years.

She claimed he had violently raped her in 2017, which he denied.
In a statement by the DA office seen by the outlet, they said experienced prosecutors had been hired to review the allegations, and ‘in this case, those prosecutors conducted an extremely thorough review, but determined that at this time, there is insufficient evidence to charge Mr. Hammer with a crime.’
They added: ‘As prosecutors, we have an ethical responsibility to only charge cases that we can prove beyond a reasonable doubt.’
The statement went on to say that ‘due to the complexity of the relationship and inability to prove a non-consensual, forcible sexual encounter we are unable to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt,’ and would not be going forward with the case.

Hammer has not worked in the industry since allegations came to light in 2021, shortly after which he checked himself into rehab for drug, alcohol and sex issues; he was also dropped by his agency and removed from upcoming projects.
The actor recently spoke about the allegations for the first time in a lengthy interview where he denied any criminal wrongdoing.
However he said he was ‘one million per cent’ emotionally abusive towards them.
