The Independent – Scandal of rouge nurses free to work on hospital wards

The Independent reports on its own exclusive, saying scores of potentially dangerous healthcare workers are in charge of vulnerable patients as regulator bosses fail to investigate a growing backlog of misconduct cases.

Overall there are more than 1,000 outstanding cases against healthcare staff for a hearing, including 451 that have not even been allocated a lawyer to vet. In 83 of the more serious allegations, the accused staff have been put under restrictions but could still be working with patients.

Elsewhere, the front page leads with a large image on children walking through rubble in the Gaza Strip as ceasefire talks halt are no in doubt after Israel boycotted peace talks.
