Sam Fender treated drinkers to an exclusive performance of his latest single at a buskers night in his local North Shields pub.
On Monday, the Brit Award winner put on an impromptu show for pub-goers at North Shields’ Low Lights Tavern and debuted a new track at their buskers night on his home turf.
The local lad has had quite the year releasing chart-topping hits, selling out arenas and making his Glastonbury debut.
His surprise appearance at the business’s Low Lights’ Buskers Night was shared in a Facebook group – Buskers North East – and was met with elation from the event’s host Robert Webster.
The organiser was left in awe by what happened on the second day of the new year and revealed that he had once welcomed a young Sam on the very same night to the event, almost a decade earlier.
Robert gushed: ‘What just happened!!.

‘Sam Fender . Sang a new song, ( you heard it hear first ). Belter!!. Then did a duet with Ray Rowley, the roof was liftin. Like I said. What just happened!!. BELTER NIGHT [sic]’.
He also explained the running order of the popular local showcase for the evening: ‘Well. It started with, Ben Harwood. Playing originals & Springsteen covers + a Sam Fender cover.
‘Then, Colin Gray,( grandad Colin) had the crowd in the palm of his hand with his rendition of covers.

‘Ray Rowley. What can I say? . Showman extraordinaire. Rocked the joint. Then, one of me very first Buskers, from 8/9 years ago, got up!!. [sic]’
Not only did the pub help Sam practice his stage presence back in the day but Low Lights is also home to both of the musician’s Brit Awards.
The Seventeen Going Under singer offered his Critics Choice and Best Rock/Alternative statues up to be turned into beer pumps.
In honour of the pub’s late former owner John O’Keefe, the chart-topper named a stage after him at Finsbury Park.
Sam and his band are gearing up to play two packed-out gigs at Newcastle United’s football stadium, St. James’ Park, in June 2023.
