While we can’t imagine any other actor playing Ken in the new Barbie movie, Ryan Gosling’s kids weren’t so keen.
In fact, they were totally unbothered when he landed the star role.
Ryan appears opposite Margot Robbie in Greta Gerwig’s hotly-anticipated live-action flick, which hits cinemas next Friday.
Barbie fans get to watch their favourite doll venture out from Barbie Land into the real world, with Ken tagging along for all the chaos that is bound to ensue.
There’s no denying that Ryan has been chanelling his Kenergy good and proper throughout filming and promo for the movie, making him the perfect man to play Ken.
However, he’s admitted his children actually have ‘no use’ for Ken at home.

Speaking to People, the actor said Amada, seven, and Esmeralda, eight – who Ryan shares with long-time partner Eva Mendes – were ‘confused’ by why he wanted to play Ken.
‘My kids were my introduction to [Barbie],’ the 42-year-old began.
‘I think they’re confused as to why I would want to play Ken.
‘They have no use for Ken.’
But, his little ones had his back all the way and even helped Ryan prepare for a big scene.
‘My kids were around for the months at home, as I was prepping for it,’ he added.
‘So they, inadvertently, were prepping for it too.

‘And they came to set that day and were a huge sense of support and doing it with me off-camera.’
Ryan previously told Entertainment Tonight that his children have had privileged screenings of Barbie already – and we’re jel.
‘They’ve seen a lot [of] pieces of [the film], and helped me a lot with it. They were huge inspiration for me,’ he said sweetly.
Discussing whether they found his portrayal funny, the dad-of-two replied: ‘Yeah, unless it wasn’t. And then I worked on it.’
It’s not just Ryan’s acting we’ll be treated to when Barbie lands next week, because he also features on the film’s soundtrack.
Yep, Ken can do musical numbers too! As the doll pours his heart out in an emotional ballad, which cinema fans have already had a glimpse of in a preview clip.

‘It doesn’t seem to matter what I do, I’m always number two,’ Ken sings.
‘No one knows how hard I try.’
‘Hey, check me out, I’m just Ken,’ he later adds, before ending the number by screaming: ‘I’ll see you on the Malibu beach!’
Naturally, Barbie fans are obsessed and we’re absolutely dying for more…
July 21 cannot come soon enough!
