Royal Mail workers begin fresh 48-hour strike
Royal Mail postal workers have started a new 48-hour strike over pay and working conditions.
It is the most recent in a string of walkouts that involve 115,000 workers and will impact UK deliveries.
The workers’ union, the Communication Workers Union (CWU), says its members want a pay increase that keeps up with the rising cost of living.
“No talks are happening,” Royal Mail stated, despite having made a revised offer.
On Thursday and Friday of last week, postal workers went on strike, and on December 9, 11, 14, 15, 23, and 24 in the run up to Christmas, another round of strikes is planned.
On strike days, Royal Mail will only deliver as many Special Delivery letters and parcels as it can, but it will not deliver first or second-class letters.
This summer, Royal Mail turned down union demands for a pay raise that matched inflation, – the rate at which prices rise, which is currently 11.1%. This led to the dispute.
