The Foreign Secretary claimed the ex-chancellor was indulging in “Project Fear” as he warned that cutting taxes would drive up inflation and interest rates.
Mr Sunak repeatedly accused his rival of hypocrisy, pointing to her role in the Remain campaign and her support for balancing the books in the austerity era.
The bad-tempered encounter came as the two Conservative leadership candidates met for a one-on-one debate in Stoke-on-Trent, hosted by the BBC, and it follows several days of furious briefing from both sides.
