Rishi awkwardly laughs off election date question in radio grilling
Rishi Sunak has been criticised for laughing off a question about when a general election will be held.
The prime minister embarked on a media blitz of radio stations in the North East of the country this morning, ahead of next month’s local elections.
But during an interview with presenter Amy Oakden on BBC Radio Tees, the PM was pressed on when he plans to call a general election, which he responded to with a fit of feigned laughter.
Sunak said he had ‘answered that question many times in the last few weeks’ and was ‘unfortunately not’ able to disclose the precise date to local radio, but was pressed by the presenter about his awkward reaction.
