Rio Ferdinand believes Harry Kane will snub a summer move to Manchester United and sign a contract extension with current club Tottenham instead.
The 29-year-old has been in superb form once again this season, having netted 17 times in the Premier League already while he added another assist for Heung-min Son to his collection in Sunday’s 2-0 win over West Ham.
Before that match kicked off, Tottenham organised a massive tifo to celebrate their star forward after he became the club’s all-time top scorer in their last home game against Manchester City.
Kane has 267 goals in all competitions for the north London club, one more than previous record holder Jimmy Greaves, and can now set his sights on Alan Shearer’s long-standing Premier League record of 260 – which he is 60 short of.
However, there are growing question marks over whether he will break that record in a Lilywhite shirt, with his contract up in the summer of 2024.
Kane is open to signing a contract extension but the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea – as well as foreign sides like Bayern Munich and Real Madrid – have all been linked with summer swoops, though Ferdinand feels he will stay in north London.
‘If I’m a betting man, I’m going to say I reckon Harry Kane stays at Spurs and he’ll just go outright for the goalscoring record,’ said Ferdinand on his Vibe with FIVE YouTube show when asked about a potential switch to Old Trafford.

On whether claiming the record and going down in Tottenham folklore would be enough for Kane if Spurs are unable to win any trophies, Ferdinand continued: ‘For most people I don’t think it would be, but every man to their own.
‘I think if Harry Kane came out and said that I would respect that and respect him. It wouldn’t be what I would do, or what I did, or what I would aim to do. But everyone to their own.
‘But I just want him to come out and tell us, so we’re all aware of what he wants to do.
‘But again, this is a business. He’s up for renegotiation soon for a new contract. If he just says, “Yes I want to be a Spurs player” his bargaining power is gone.
‘So you have to respect that, and you have to play the waiting game. But if he does re-sign, I want that explanation.’
Despite some mixed performances this season, Tottenham are currently in fourth place in the Premier League and Ferdinand believes their position is exclusively thanks to their top scorer: ‘Without Harry Kane, they’re in a relegation battle Spurs!’
