Rihanna reveals pregnancy at Super Bowl show
Pop star Rihanna revealed her baby bump at Sunday’s halftime show, sending Twitter into a meltdown. Moments after her performance wrapped up, Rihanna’s reps officially confirmed to THR that she is pregnant with her second child.
Last week she had teased “bringing someone” to the performance – many believing it was going to be Jay Z, Eminem or Kanye West.
“I’m thinking about bringing someone,” she replied. “I’m not sure, we’ll see.”
There was a bit of confusion at the start of the show, with the baby bump on show but fans online wondered if the singer – known for her body positivity – was just showing off a curvier figure. Although the bump was on display, she didn’t draw attention to it. But as the set progressed fans became confident the singer was pregnant again, nine months after welcoming her first child – a son with partner A$AP Rocky.
While many fans were excited for Rihanna and Rocky, some expressed disappointment, knowing the pregnancy could delay a new album and tour.
Rihanna’s halftime show
Rihanna managed to pack in a lot of hits in her 14-minute set. She didn’t perform any new music, but the audience went wild regardless.
Dressing in an all-red custom jumpsuit by Loewe, she appeared on a floating platform which soared high above the crowd, as dancers dressed in all white, gathered below.
She kicked off the set with Better Have My Money and mixed her best-known hits alongside lesser-known tracks such as Pour It Up. For some songs, she only performed the first verse or chorus – leaving room to pack as many songs in as possible.
There were, understandably, no costume changes, but the 34-year-old still dazzled her crowd. The dancers displayed razor-sharp choreography throughout the whole performance, and with a backdrop of fireworks, the show was not short on spectacle.
