Steve Barclay, when asked why Lady Mone has not had Tory whip removed, says it is a matter for chief whip
A cabinet minister has said it is “right and important” for Michelle Mone to be investigated after she appeared to have received millions from the profits of a PPE company that was awarded two government contracts.
However, Steve Barclay, the health secretary, could not answer why Lady Mone had not had the Conservative whip removed, saying “matters of the whip are always for the chief whip and that’s a longstanding convention”.
