Richard E Grant has shown that there is no holding back when it comes to his Christmas celebrations, as he proudly debuted his self-proclaimed ‘minimalist’ tree.
Obviously, it was anything but.
Taking to Instagram, the Withnail and I star showed off his festive fir tree, which was standing in the corner of a cosy and bright living room, towering over the furniture.
Richard clearly commits fully to Christmas in his household, for which we can only commend him.
Grazing the top of the ceiling, the tree looked to be at least seven foot tall, and was decorated with all manner of ornaments, from red and gold baubles, fairylights, angels and even a decoration or two with the Union Jack flag splashed across it.
‘Our Minimalist tree😂🌲😘,’ the 65-year-old joked in the caption.
Plenty of his friends and fans were loving the over-the-top decorations, with TV chef Nigella Lawson commenting: ‘Beautiful! 🎄’, while actress Keeley Hawes left a string of heart-eyed emoji.
‘I think you could get just 1 more bauble on there Richard, I can see a little gap 😂😂,’ joked a tickled fan, while another proclaimed: ‘A Christmas tree as Christmas trees should be: full of colour and memories and love.’
At the end of last week, Richard explained that it was the first Christmas tree he and his daughter Olivia had put up since the death of his wife Joan Washington from cancer in September 2021.

‘My wife and I were both avowed Christmas-aholics and it’s been very nostalgic to put up our first tree since she died, 14 months ago. My daughter and I, unpacking all the decoration and gubbins we’ve collected over all these decades – as you can see, it’s minimalist!’ he joked in a short clip.
Sharing solidarity with those who were grieving loved ones, he added: ‘But to everyone who’s lost someone and going through their first Christmas tree going up, I wish you all the courage that it takes. While it’s sad, it’s also incredibly life-enhancing and memory-charged.‘
‘Enjoy yours,’ he urged.

In the caption, he shared: ‘My daughter @oliviagranted and I decorated our first Christmas tree since my wife died and wish everyone who has lost someone, courage and a pocketful of happiness 🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲❤️🌲’
The star recently revealed that his wife had ‘detonated’ the 20 single women they knew before her death.
Appearing on Lorraine in November, Grant spoke about ‘finding moments of happiness’ after his wife’s death, and how Washington actually insisted he must ‘find something in every single day’ that made him happy.
He shared: ‘She did this other thing where she went through about 20 women that we know who are single, and she basically detonated each one with a little comment.
