If you’re ready to take your monster slaying skills to the next level, make sure you know how to unlock all the Resident Evil 4 remake weapons at your disposal.
The Resident Evil 4 remake has been a critical and commercial smash but the emphasis is much more on action than it is horror, which means you need all the weapons you can get to survive.
Luckily, the game offers you a vast arsenal of guns to choose from, each with its own strengths and weaknesses.
So, whether you’re a fan of Leon’s classic Silver Ghost handgun or prefer to wield more powerful weapons like the Broken Butterfly, we’ve got you covered with our complete guide to all the weapons in the Resident Evil 4 remake.
The more you progress in the game you’ll find yourself accumulating more firepower than a small army, including regular guns, trusty knives, grenades, and even a Rocket Launcher.
All the handguns in the Resident Evil 4 remake and how to get them
SG-09
The SG-O9 handgun is Leon’s trusty sidekick from the get-go, serving as the perfect tool to take on those pesky villagers, with a well-aimed shot to the noggin or limb.
Though it may not pack the most punch, it certainly does the trick for the early hours of the game, especially if you’re quick enough to follow up with a melee attack.
Punisher
The Punisher is the second handgun you’ll find on your journey. You’ll need to purchase it from the Merchant with spinels, although it’s worth the investment.
Although the Punisher will cost you 5 spinels it’s an upgrade from the SG-O9 and capable of dealing some serious damage. It’s also capable of hitting multiple enemies with just one bullet. So, if you want to take out groups of enemies quickly and efficiently, the Punisher is the way to go.

Red 9
You’ll need to go out of your way to retrieve the Red9, a handgun nestled in a chest at the centre of a half-sunken boat in Chapter 4. The boat is right in the middle of the lake and well worth investigating.
While this pistol boasts impressive accuracy, it may not be the best choice for taking down tougher foes due to its relatively low damage output. Instead, the Red9 is a reliable option for eliminating slower, weaker enemies that require precision shots to defeat.
Blacktail
The Blacktail is the ultimate handgun that you can acquire from the Merchant for a whopping 24,000 pesetas from Chapter 7 onwards. It’s basically a souped-up version of the SG-O9 pistol, that you start with at the beginning of the game.
Matilda
If you’re looking for a handgun that can handle a horde of enemies with ease, the Matilda is a burst-firing gun that will get the job done.
Although it may not be the most ammo-efficient weapon in your arsenal, its high rate of fire and decent damage make it a favourite among players. To get your hands on the Matilda, you’ll need to visit the Merchant from Chapter 8 and be prepared to part with 10 spinels.
Sentinel Nine
The Sentinel Nine is a highly accurate and versatile weapon but the catch is that it’s only available if you buy the Deluxe Edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake.

W-870
The game’s first shotgun is available for purchase from the Merchant, starting in Chapter 2. Alternatively, it can be found on the wall of the house located to the left of the tower in the Village Square, on the second floor.
It’s an effective weapon for close range, capable of taking out multiple enemies at once and vital to surviving the village siege at the beginning of the game.
Riot Gun
The Riot Gun is the perfect weapon to keep enemies at bay and it’s a major upgrade from the W-870 shotgun. It can be purchased from the Merchant for 28,000 pesetas from Chapter 6 onwards.

Skull Shaker
The Skull Shaker is a lever-action shotgun, possessing immense power and able to take out lesser enemies in one shot. Like the Sentinel Nine, you can only acquire it by purchasing the Deluxe Edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake.

SR M1903
After retrieving Leon’s gear in Chapter 2, you have the opportunity to procure the SR M1903 bolt-action rifle from the Merchant for a sum of 12,000 pesetas. This rifle boasts exceptional accuracy and stopping power, rendering it an optimal choice for shooting down enemies from a distance.
Stingray
There’s another rifle you can get in the Resident Evil 4 remake called the Stingray. It’s a semi-automatic rifle that can deal some serious damage and it can be a great primary weapon for the rest of the game. You buy it from the Merchant in Chapter 7 for 30,000 pesetas.

Killer7
Another magnum you will discover during your Resident Evil 4 remake journey is the Killer7, which boasts higher ammo capacity and damage than its predecessor. While this firearm can be purchased from the Merchant in Chapter 13, for a hefty 77,000 pesetas, if you exercise patience and wait until Chapter 15 you can snag it at a discounted price.

Kitchen Knife
You may come across the Kitchen Knife as loot scattered throughout the game’s map. It is a simpler version of the Combat Knife with lower durability, it still has the ability to parry attacks and serve as a useful tool. However, once the Kitchen Knife breaks, it will be lost for good.
