    The Women’s World Cup has grown in popularity and significance, promoting women’s sports and fostering international competition on a global stage.

    England and Spain made it to the final playing a thrilling game which lived up to the hype, with Spain winning the Women’s World Cup 1-0.

    Tournament favourites USA were dramatically knocked out in the Round of 16 – one of the key signs of the global development of the women’s game.

    Luis Rubiales should have known better

    Spain’s win was overshadowed by the Spanish football federation president Luis Rubiales who grabbed and kissed player Jenni Hermoso on the lips without her permission. This caused controversy and blew up on media outlets around the world. Which led the Spanish Federation to suspend Rubiales after immense media pressure.

    There was a an outcry on social media with many suggesting that it was a harmless kiss in jubilation and others suggesting it was a violation of Jenni’s rights.
