Germany bagged a vital point giving the team hopes of reaching the World Cup Round of 16 phases. It comes after Germany’s embarrassing loss to Japan.

Costa Rica’s shocking win over Japan has helped bring Germany back in with chances of progressing out of the group stages.

Germany still need to defeat Costa Rica in their final Group E game – and hope Japan doesn’t beat Spain. But for now, they are once again serious contenders.

Spain took the lead in the second half when substitute Alvaro Morata flicked in a Jordi Alba cross.

But Germany continued to pres and Niclas Fullkrug scored the equaliser just seven minutes before the end, when he smacked the ball high past the Spain goalkeeper.

Germany were close to scoring a second goal, when in the last few seconds Leroy Sane raced through but ran out of space and the ball was cleared.

Spain’s manager has an impressive team of youth and experience. Upcoming superstars such as Gavi, 18 and Pedri, 20 are playing alongside decorated Manchester City pair Aymeric Laporte and Rodri.

Spain produced slick passes but could not find an easy way through. The Spanish manager applied a new plan, a more direct and powerful Morata.

Spain will be disappointed to concede a late goal – and still have work to do in their final group game against Japan but there are a lot of impressive players and plays in this team.

Germany – off the back of the embarrassing defeat by Japan – proved they can’t be dismissed. The team dug deep and continued to press high, not only being able to equalise but providing a highly entertaining game.

Germany need to beat Costa Rica on Thursday to have a chance of staying in the World Cup but the performance they put in shows they have every ability to do so.

Germany are a team with an impressive character, and they are certainly not lacking in motivation.
