England have made a pretty perfect start to their world cup campaign, winning 6-2 with some pretty slick goals. The team were able to show off their athleticism and skill in a game that saw a long pause in the first half following a head injury to the Iranian goalie.
Jude Bellingham opened the scoring, Saka netted two goals and Sterling scored his first England goal.
Marcus Rashford was substituted on and within three touches he scored.
Jack Grealish (also substituted on) scored in the 90th minute.
Captain Harry Kane will be disappointed not to have scored but he can claim two assists from the match.
Iran didn’t give up the fight, a momentary lack of concentration saw Taremi pull one back for Iran.
A late and questionable penalty was awarded to Iran – considering how much the referee had let go in the game, there’s little consistency in awarding Iran a penalty for a shirt tug.
England will be disappointed to have conceded two goals but all in all a pretty wonderful start for the Lions – and lots to take away and learn from this game.
Whilst England was always expected to win this game, Iran are still ranked 20th in the world – so its a great performance from the Three Lions.
England face USA on Friday, whilst Iran will take on Wales on the same day.
