The Guardian – ‘Putin accused of covering tracks over Navalny’s death’
The Guardian reports that Alexei Navalny’s allies have accused Kremlin officials of “covering their tracks” after the activist’s death on Friday.
The paper leads on the search by Navalny’s mother, Lyudmila Navalnaya, for his body amid fears it is being deliberately kept from her because of what it may reveal about how he died.
It says Navalnaya, with Navalny’s lawyer, travelled to the penal colony where he had been being held over the weekend but was repeatedly given conflicting information about the body’s whereabouts. Allies of Navalny are quoted saying that Russian authorities are “driving us around in circles” and “covering their tracks”.
