The Great British Bake Off judge Dame Prue Leith is thrilled Alison Hammond is joining the Channel 4 show because she will help end rude jokes but we’re not convinced she’s got the right woman.
The This Morning presenter, 48, was confirmed as Matt Lucas’ successor earlier this year after the Little Britain star announced his departure to focus on other projects.
Fans were thrilled the former Big Brother contestant was chosen to replace Matt, 49, and now Dame Prue has elaborated on why she’s relieved Alison has joined the GBBO tent.
Dame Prue explained that she struggled to understand the banter between Matt and co-host Noel Fielding, 49, and hopes that Alison will help tone down the innuendos.
The chef said: ‘I never get the jokes, you know… all this stuff about innuendo and things’.
‘I feel I’m really glad Alison’s coming, cause at least she’s a woman and she’ll be a little more sensible,’ she continued on Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett’s Dish podcast.

Saying what we were all thinking Angela laughed: ‘I’m not sure about that.’
Alison has, of course, become a national treasure for her wild and hilarious on-screen moments that have included being nearly arrested in Italy, ‘marrying’ Dwayne The Rock Johnson and testing Harry Styles’ knowledge of Shakespeare.
Dame Prue continued: ‘Those three men, they’re like three children. The word sausage puts them into…’

After the studio erupted into laughter before she could finish her sentence, Dame Prue went on: ‘Over and over again I’m the butt of the joke because I’m standing there and I don’t understand why everyone is laughing.
‘I’ve said something which is apparently hilarious and it’s rude and of course, I don’t get it.’
Dame Prue previously told Metro.co.uk that she believes Alison will be ‘fantastic’ on GBBO.

‘Not only because of her character and her personality, but I like the fact she’s a woman,’ she added.
