    Derbyshire Police continue to manage an incident causing the M1’s closure in both directions, with National Highways advising motorists to seek alternative routes.

    What we know so far

    The M1 motorway has been closed in both directions in Derbyshire following an incident involving Derbyshire Police. The closure is in effect at junction 29A near Staveley.

    National Highways confirmed that traffic officers are on the scene to manage strategic closures and reroute vehicles. They announced on X: ‘Due to an ongoing Derbyshire Police led incident, the M1 is now closed northbound between J29 Chesterfield and J29A near Staveley, with the southbound remaining closed within J29A.’

    Traffic cameras at the location indicate congestion is already building, prompting advice for motorists to seek alternative routes. The specifics of the police incident are currently unclear, with inquiries ongoing as WTX attempts to contact Derbyshire Police for further information.

    The M1 motorway has been closed in both directions in Derbyshire this morning after an ongoing incident.

    The major motorway is currently closed in both directions within J29A near Staveley due to an ongoing incident involving Derbyshire Police, National Highways has said.

    They’ve added that traffic officers are on scene to assist with strategic closures and re-routing for traffic.

    National Highways wrote on X: ‘Due to an ongoing Derbyshire Police led incident, the M1 is now closed northbound between J29 Chesterfield and J29A near Staveley, with the southbound remaining closed within J29A.

    ‘Traffic Officers are on scene to assist with strategic closures on the approach at this stage.’
