Harry’s plummeting popularity: the lowdown
Harry’s popularity has sunk to an all-time low following a number of explosive claims about the Royal Family.
Almost two-thirds (64%) of Britons say they have a negative view of the Duke of Sussex, up from 58% in May, with just a quarter (26%) seeing him in a positive light, according to the YouGov survey.
Harry and Meghan have both seen their popularity take a nosedive, according to a YouGov poll, with Harry’s reaching an all-time low. What do you think? let us know in the poll or have your say in the comments below
A three-part Netflix series followed swiftly by the publication of his autobiography Spare – officially tomorrow, but with revelations leaked over the past week – and a trio of confessional television interviews to promote the book has led to the King’s youngest son plummeting in the popularity stakes.
Harry’s anecdotes – including a Mills & Boon-esque description of the moment he lost his virginity like a ‘young stallion’, tales of talking to a bin after taking magic mushrooms and a slew of graphic accounts of bust-ups with his family – have seemingly had the affect of putting the public off the once much-loved royal.
Claims that he killed 25 Taliban in Afghanistan he considered ‘chess pieces, not people’ have further damaged his reputation, a particular blow since Harry was much admired for his service and is thought to consider the military his extended family.
Once arguably the most popular of all the Queen’s grandchildren, Harry’s stock has fallen.
Harry’s net favourability among the British public is currently at a record low of minus 38, with Meghan even lower at minus 42.
