Councillor warns immigration centre assault could inspire more incidents amid anti-refugee rhetoric
The police are being urged to treat the petrol bomb attack on an immigration centre in Dover as a terrorist incident, amid growing concern that anti-refugee rhetoric from ministers could be encouraging such behaviour.
Photographs of the suspected attack showed a man releasing a plastic bottle taped to a lit firework on Dover harbour’s Western Jet Foil, where Border Force officers process people who have crossed the Channel in small boats. The suspect was confirmed dead minutes after the incident.
