Northern Ireland Police officer faces prosecution over death scenes images
Two individuals, a police officer and a former officer, are to be prosecuted for alleged misconduct in public office, including sharing imagery taken at the scenes of sudden deaths. The decision was made by the Public Prosecution Service (PPS) after receiving evidence submitted in an investigation file by the Police Ombudsman for Northern Ireland as part of Operation Warwick.
One individual is facing prosecution for improper use of a public electronic communications network related to the alleged sharing of imagery captured at the scenes of sudden deaths. The case is currently being heard.
The PPS stated that four families, connected to one or both investigations, have been informed of the outcome of their respective files. The PPS assistant director, Martin Hardy, said the office would continue to engage with the families as the two separate prosecutions progress.
